Cows and heifers are both bred to start calving the last week in March, and the bulls are pulled out to ensure that the last calves are born by May 1. The calves are culled for inconsistencies, low performance and poor conformation. Replacement heifers are selected and the remaining females and steers are sold each fall. Most of the commercial herd is out on grass all year as the Ghost-Pine ranch west of Granum provides enough forage for year-round grazing.
